Bhairavi is the warrior goddess, commonly interchangeable with the goddesses Kali & Durga. Bhairavi is the fifth of the ten great wisdoms (Mahavidyas) or the 10 tantric goddesses. Bhairavi is the goddess of creation who ends evil to uphold the supreme light of consciousness (Chidagni). Bhairavi represents the radiant fire (Tejas), that sparks the supreme power of action through fearless speech. Bhairavi’s words are like flaming swords that remove opposition, revealing the ultimate knowledge of truth. Bhairavi resides in all of us, at the base of our spine, known as Kundalini. When awakened Bhairavi is our purifier into heightened consciousness. Bhairavi is the physical manifestation of light and fire who brings victory to life, after the destruction of negative forces.

Bhairavi is worshipped through the recitation of the mantra Svaha. Svaha means self-offering, most commonly used in sacred vedic fire ceremony (Homa or Havana). Many vedic mantras also complete with Svaha, offering prayers to call in the power of the supreme word. Svaha is also the wife of the divine fire (Agni).
